Salatiga Home Tour

How about a little home tour? This is our home in Salatiga. We live on Jalan Abiyoso....If you were to stand on our street and look to the east, this is what you would see. The neighborhood mosque is about a block away and there are several others within a few more blocks in every direction. Being that it is Ramadan (a holy month set aside for fasting during daylight hours) this tends to be a pretty noisy time. I have to say, though, that living in Latin America across from a bar really prepared us for the noise here. Honestly, I find it much quieter here than anywhere we lived in Latin America! We've learned that having the fans on is very helpful in muting the sound of the 4:30 a.m. call to prayer - I don't even hear it any more! This is our front room. According to local Indonesian culture, this room is reserved for hosting any guests that come to visit us in our home.

Our dining room
The Kitchen. The kitchen is very small and so we had these neat shelves put in for extra storage. A new Indonesian friend of ours helped us put them in - now THAT was an excellent opportunity to practice what limited Indonesian we have!
The office! We do a lot of studying at that desk. The girls also sit there and watch movies from time to time if we aren't using our laptops. We don't have a TV or DVD player yet...and no couches to sit on anyway!
The washing machine! I am very grateful for our helper, Ibu Tutik, who knows how to operate that contraption. One side is for washing/rinsing and then you put the wet clothes into the other side to spin. Then, we hang dry everything and it all gets ironed.

The girls all share a bedroom (so that we can have an office). Brooklyn sleeps on the top bunk and Maddie on the bottom. We bought that crib here for Paige after just a couple of nights of trying to make her sleep on a mattress on the floor!

Our bathroom! We're very grateful for a normal, western bathroom in our house.

Our bedroom.

That's about it! We do have another room at the back of our house that is currently where our laundry is hanging to dry since it rained all day today. In a couple of weeks, we will get our living room set that we ordered and we're hoping that we can stuff at least a couch and chair back in that room. We'll then get a TV and DVD player so the girls can at least watch movies. We don't so much love letting them use our computers to watch movies - the just can't resist pushing buttons!
