Back again.

Whew! What a whirlwind trip to Idaho. We covered something like 2500 miles over the past several days. Out of 7 days we only had one day without any driving! That, my friends, can really burn a person out - even a person like myself who loves road trips. Thankfully, we were driving through some of the most beautiful country on this planet. Wow, Idaho, we had no idea you were so pretty!

Our time at MAF was great. The class we attended was very well done. We learned a few more valuable tools to use in our time overseas, especially where safety is concerned. We're so glad MAF takes safety serious.

One of the best parts of our time in Nampa was the opportunity to meet some of our future teammates! We met a couple that was recently married - he's already served in Kalimantan and now they are preparing to return there as a couple. Another family hails from Canada - the husband is a pilot and the wife a teacher who will likely someday be our girls' teacher. We enjoyed getting to know both of the couples at least a little bit and feel honored to serve with them (and many other friends we already know in Kalimantan)!

Our trip to Grangeville was also a highlight. We got to meet many new people as well as reconnect with old friends. We even got to see my Great Uncle Keith and his wife Cy!! They drove all the way down from Coeur d'Alene to see us - now that was a very, very special treat!

The driving and staying in hotels and strangers homes with two young children went far better than expected. Maddie and Paige did great. I'm not saying it wasn't still exhausting, though :-)

So, we drove back into Alamosa at around 2:30 p.m. yesterday and promptly made our way to Brooklyn's school. We yanked her out of class early (actually, she was in recess) and absconded with her before the authorities could catch us. Gosh, we missed that girl. It was such a joy to see her - all of us were giddy to have her back....

Here's the evidence:

Brooklyn: "Madison, can we share this new toy you got from McDonald's?"
Maddie, in her sweetest voice: "Of course, we can!"

Yeah, that actually happened! Absence really does make the heart grow fonder.

  1. Were you at MAF for the safety seminar? We will be there in July for that. I guess I didn't even think that it would be held during a orientation class... or maybe ours isn't. I have no idea!

  2. We were at MAF for Inside Out Safety. Yes, it was at the tail end of an orientation class... But, we're also going back to Nampa in July for the Ft. Sherman Security Training - is that the one you're coming to?! We'll be in Nampa July 17-30 at least. I hope we get to see you!
