The Door Locker Strikes Again

I already told you about our exciting Saturday. It didn't end there....

Later that same day, our little door locker (aka Paige) struck again! The little twerp locked the door to our schoolroom, blocking us out of the front half of the house. We spent a long time trying to coax her to turn the key the right way to no avail. UGH!

The front door! We ran around to try it, but sadly, we'd left the key in the lock. The thing about locks here is that if a key is already in them, they cannot be unlocked from the other side.

So....we decided to try to talk Paige through getting that key for us. SInce there are lots of windows in our front room, we could see what she was doing and talk to her. But, that didn't work either. Apparently, Paige's skill with keys pretty much ends with locking things. Unlocking doors and removing keys are an altogether different matter.

She just kept saying, "I tan't do it. I never tan do it!"

No amount of pleading from her sweaty and ready-to-breakdown parents could convince her to try.

It was time to bring out the big guns. Sean brought out one of his nifty tools and sawed a bar out of the protective bars that cover our windows and we fed Madison through the hole to go get the key for us. She had us back inside in a matter of minutes.

A few things:

  1. We have learned our lesson and there are now NO keys in any doors of any room of this house.
  2. Yes, we should have learned from the first incident, but we are kinda slow that way.
  3. Our house is basically a fortress - except for that missing bar....

  1. Even tho' I'm sorry for you guys- I have to say I'm grateful for your experience... We would have already had to cut 2 doors open were it not for your wisdom in hanging door keys on the door jam. So- I'm sorry, but THANK YOU!
