Lately

Goodness, where is the time going? Did you realize that March is almost over?

We have pretty much settled back into life here. Here is a little taste of what has been going on:

  • Homeschooling is going well, though it is challenging sometimes to get all three girls to cooperate with my plans for the day! Paige is now doing short lessons with me as well - it helps her be less distracting to her sisters. She's really having fun "doing school" each day and is quite proud of the things she has been able to learn.
  • I am SO grateful for technology - we've found several online helps and Ipad apps that have made homeschooling a LOT easier for me. My girls love it when they get to use my computer or the Ipad, so it's one way to sneak in some learning. ;-)
  • Sean and I are back to taking our weekly dates! Last week, we went out for sate ayam (chicken on a stick with an amazing peanut sauce) and then found this new coffee shop in town! It was very nice, especially for here and we were happy campers. Here's hoping it stays open and stays nice!
  • It has been very hot the past few days. On Friday, we were invited to our teammates house for swimming and running through the sprinkler.
  • Sean and I have been watching "Victorian Farm" on youtube. Oh, I love seeing how people used to live but I'm awful thankful for modern technology. I am so amazed at how hard people used to have to work just to survive. Now, I complain when the electricity goes off for a few hours and my crockpot won't cook our dinner.
  • We went out (again) for sate with the girls on Saturday. It's a little roadside place under a tarp that is only open at night - one street here in Palangkaraya is full of such places, all with various street food fare that may or may not be appetizing. Luckily, the sate ayam at our particular favorite place is always appetizing. Paige ate more than anybody. Gotta love when this family of five can eat for less than $7...and not only that, but it is one of our favorite places! (Earlier last week, when Sean and I ate there, we had to help hold the tent down when a fierce storm whipped through. Our dates are always an adventure!)

  1. Sounds so fun to me! You are blessed. So the Victorian Farm..is it a program?

  2. Val, it is a 6 hour documentary made in England (by the BBC, maybe?). Two archeologists and one domestic historian live on a farm for one year as people would have lived in the late 1900's. It is fascinating if you like history and are a bit of a throwback like me! It can be watched on YouTube - just search for Victorian Farm. They also made one in Edwardian times that I can't wait to watch!
