Guess what?!

If you guessed that Sean and I went skiing in the Alps today, you would be wrong.  But if you guessed that we "ordered" ourselves a new puppy to be sent to us in Palangka Raya from a pet store here in Salatiga...you would be right!  Isn't she cute?  

A friend of mine here pointed out that it's somewhat odd to "order" a dog and have it mailed to you.  Why yes, I guess some might think so!  We have been looking around for quite some time for just the right dog for our family. We need a guard dog but we also want a good family dog. We weren't sure we wanted a regular "kampung" dog as they are called (a mixed-breed dog available anywhere) because we'd heard all sorts of stories of weird and wacky kampung dogs that weren't trustworthy around kids.  Plus, okay, we are suckers for Golden Retrievers or German Shepherds.  We came close to buying a dog in Palangka Raya that was full grown, but that ended up falling through and the timing just wasn't right. 

Our plan was to just have our vet friend in Palangka Raya get us a dog from Java.  The problem with that is that we would have to take their word for it and pay a lot of money for a dog sight unseen - and if we didn't like what they sent we would have been stuck with it.   We happened to find this pet store here in Salatiga that specializes in breeding Goldens and even put their dogs in dog shows and have won all sorts of trophies.  They had a 3 month old puppy all ready to go!  They have already had success sending a couple of dogs to Palangka Raya and were willing to do all the paperwork and help us get the dog on a flight once we are home and ready to accept her.

So, we sort of  have a dog. The girls are already trying to think of a good name for her.  We're just praying that everything works out like it should and we see her again, as planned, in a few more weeks.
