Oh, hi.
Goodness but things have been crazy around these parts. I can't seem to fall into any sort of routine with my blogging. The only reason I'm getting any done right now is that the girls are sleeping in (a typical Monday occurrance - never on a Saturday) and Sean is out of town.
Being a full-time Mommy again is exhausting! I love it, I really do - but I'm busy pretty much all day long. Doing what? Oh, cleaning up messes, facilitating grandiose craft ideas, breaking up fights, and generally just keeping things from falling apart completely. It's a tough job! Gone are the days of blissfully sending the girls off to school. I'm a homeschooling Mom, now, to boot.
But we love it. I'm still waiting on homeschool materials...that shipment, in addition to our household shipment, has yet to arrive, though we do hear that both are in Jakarta at least. (I'm trying very hard to stay patient, so I'm going to skip the rant I would normally insert here.) We have a few materials to keep us going - and honestly, as I'm learning more about homeschooling, I'm finding that we actually have enough. I'm more of a "simple is better" kind of girl, so as long as Brooklyn can do some reading, writing, and math every day, I consider that a successful day. Not saying that we won't have even more success with actual math curriculum and fun, new books to read...but we can still do a lot in a day with the leftovers from Brooklyn's first grade class. I'm learning and reading a lot about homeschool and I'm just plain excited to really get into the thick of it...but I also know myself and my girls. Less really is more. We can get bogged down with too much schedule and bored easily with worksheets, timetables, required reading, and stauch "guidelines." I don't know how many complicated plans in my life have become nothing more than burdens...so yeah, I'm fighting my idealistic, dreamer tendencies and trying to keep realistic and simple as I plan for our homsechooling future. I'm sure I'll be blogging more about it as I learn and we figure out what that means for us. One thing is sure - these girls are very smart and love learning!
I mentioned that Sean is out of town. It's a long, complicated story but in a nutshell, he had to go to our other MAF base in Kalimantan in order to do a check-ride in the wheel plane with an examiner there before he can do a check-ride in the float plane here. Of course, this is a first for the MAF program here. Sean seems to bring along licensing issues with him wherever he goes! Anyway, we girls are passing the time without Daddy home pretty well so far. Please pray that the time passes quickly for us and that Sean is able to complete and pass this phase of his licensing ordeal! And pray for the lone pilot, Jason, who is carrying the flight load and aircraft maintenance by himself while we try to work this all out.
Now, for the grandparents, I'll leave you with a couple of snapshots of a favorite pastime around here - the zipline! Both older girls have become quite proficient at ziplining.

Love how Brooklyn is concentrating as she "zips" with her tongue out of her mouth. Cute! It's just not as cute on her mommy or her Grandpa Ron, who also stick out their tongues when they are concentrating! ;-)
