Update time.

Did you wonder where on earth we went? I'm in a bit of a blogging rut, lately. Seems like all my mental energy is sucked up by learning this language or figuring out what to fix for dinner.

There is one other reason I'm sparse around these parts...

I am now paying the price for dropping my husband's laptop on the floor and rendering it useless until parts arrive. We have to share a computer. It's horrible. It's bad for our marriage. I despise it. I don't get to use the computer for uninterrupted periods of time. No way. That's a luxury both of us miss these days. One of us is always hovering behind the other as they type away on the keyboard, wringing our hands and biting back snarky remarks about how long it should take to check a Facebook page. (And is that really the best use of your time right now? Get off so I can do what I need to do. It's really important that I be on there right. now. Well, yes, I might sneak a peak at my Facebook page while I'm at it, but I don't know what business that is of yours.)

Just imagine - at one time, most people didn't even know what a computer was...and now it's a serious cause for contention in an otherwise very happy marriage?! There's probably something very wrong with that...but I don't have time to philosophize about that right now with Sean breathing down my neck asking if I'm going to be done blogging any time soon. He has something really important to do.

Here's the abbreviated update of the past week or so:

  • Life here has become as normal as it can for the time being and it's sometimes hard for me to think of anything to say here on this blog. It takes Sean's pictures of our downtown trip to make me realize again that we are, truly, in a different world. (Sean's got some great pics, doesn't he?!)
  • Mt. Merapi is quieting down, I guess. We haven't heard much, though we have seen it emitting a little more ash once in a while. People that were evacuated are slowly making their way back to what is left of their homes. Can you imagine what they are feeling?
  • We're on a break between units at our language school. It's been great. Sean and I had a fun trip downtown, today, and even got in a little date at the nearby cafe.
  • Thank you for praying for the Uskert family. Please remember them as they continue to grieve.
  • Brooklyn and Maddie don't have school tomorrow so we're going to try to go swimming. We're trying to work with them so that they feel more comfortable in the water and swimming has been such a perfect family outing for us here.
  • Sean and I figured out how to combine our favorite pastimes into one, mutually enjoyable outing. I shop and peruse my way through stores downtown, while he takes pictures of all the crazy things happening out on the street. It's perfect. Bonus: I can shop all morning and still spend less than $20 total. And I bought a lot of stuff.
