An update
- We're fine. The earthquake and subsequent tsunami happened a long, long way from where we are and affected a different island. We're also pretty far from the coast here in Salatiga.
- We're fine. Though the erupting volcano isn't very far away from us as the crow flies (15 miles) we are protected from lava flows and dangerous gases by Mt. Merbabu, another mountain. We can't see Merapi from here, though if it were clear we might be able to see the ash plume. As it is, most people here in Salatiga don't even know that Merapi is erupting! Honestly, if I hadn't heard from family back home that this is going on, I wouldn't have even known!
- Indonesia has really been in the news lately! And now, we can say that Sean was in the Indonesian news too. I'll let him fill you in, but let's just say that the gawking foreigner who decided to skip school so he could see the action was pretty much the main attraction for reporters waiting for the volcano to do something exciting ;-)
- In other news...there isn't much. Life has become rather boring and "normal" for us here. I'm on my way in a few minutes to go to a parent/teacher conference with Brooklyn's teacher. The girls are doing fine - they seem quite content and comfortable here. Sean and I continue to fight the good fight of language acquisition. Some days are better than others, but I'd say we're making progress! We're daily grateful for the opportunity to live here...this is an amazing place!
- Sorry. No pictures and nothing very exciting for now. I told you - life is getting normal again and boring! If you want us to blog about something - i.e. you have a question about something in particular about our life here or you want to see a picture of something (other than grandkids, we already know that one) please comment and let us know so we know what to write about! With a brain already so full and tired, I could use some fresh ideas!
