Sometimes....

Sometimes, when a little girl comes home from a bad day of school, a mom just has to throw all the normal rules out the window and take her daughter to the Dollar Store for a bag full of meaningless junk....that means all the world to her.

Brooklyn's two main love languages are Quality Time and Gifts. Nothing tells her she is loved better than a special outing....except maybe a special outing to do some shopping just for her!

I'm just glad that, for now, it doesn't have to cost more than a few dollars!

Maddie's Big Day!

I'm just gushing over here.  My second-born took a big step today and made a decision for Christ!  We were having a talk in the car on the way to the store about heaven and next thing I know she's over there quietly folding her hands and whispering a prayer to Jesus. When she was done, she looked over at me with a big smile and said, "I have so many blessings from God, Mommy!" Indeed. Happy Born Again Day, Madison Elizabeth!  We love you so much.

If you can't beat 'em....

Brooklyn can't seem to resist writing on the walls. I finally decided to put an end to the battle.... Now she has her own special place in her bedroom to be as creative as she wants (within reason). This can be painted over and it gives her some boundaries while still allowing her to be "creative." I'm not sure she'll have any interest in writing on the wall now that it isn't against the rules but I sure had fun painting on the wall. I'm tempted to paint myself a square to doodle and scribble on.

A Javanese Wedding

We were invited to attend a wedding on Tuesday. We don't actually know the bride and groom, but the bride is our house helper's niece, and because of that relationship, we were invited to attend. We were so honored by the invitation and jumped at the chance to see a real Javanese wedding. It was beautiful and so different than anything we'd ever seen before. Sean and I were very impressed with all the intricate decorations - mostly made from natural materials. There were ornate decorations made entirely from reeds, amazing floral arrangements, a water fountain, and an ornately carved wooden back drop. Even the headdress the bride wore was made of reeds and flowers! Look at that bride! Isn't she beautiful? I was so intrigued by her ornate costumes, elaborate hair, and artistic makeup. Everyone in the wedding party was dressed up in traditional Javanese fashion. It was lovely. There was food for all and drinks and boxes of snacks just in case! This is what saved ...
