Up late
I should be in bed...but I'm savoring this nice little quiet moment. All. By. Myself.
......well, me and the kitten who is on her nightly rampage and is attacking her own shadow all over the living room floor. I don't mind it so much unless her shadow lands on my leg. Ouch!
Life is never dull here folks. Or completely still. Ever.
The good news is that we seem to be all well and over that yucky...whatever it was.
We went to a library at the park event today. It was a lovely, lovely day to be out. The park was beautiful. The games were fun. Everyone was having the time of their lives.
And we got to watch it all!
Unfortunately, my children refused to participate in all those fun games. So we watched. Not what I was going for. I can't say I blame them - it was a little overwhelming and they didn't know any of the other kids there.
Okay, okay, I NEVER, EVER, EVER liked playing those silly get-to-know-you games with strangers. And I never liked it when our youth pastor made us play Fruit Basket Upset. When I saw those chairs circled up on a Wednesday night I turned right around and fled the scene. Hated it. To this day I refuse to play silly group games where the only real fun is laughing at other people doing stupid things that you are praying will not be forced upon you. That's just how I feel about it.
So. No, I can't blame my own children for shying away from playing grab-the-flag-out-of-the-stranger's-back-pocket.
It's just that when you make an effort to brush hair, find matching clothes, wipe faces, and get out of the house you'd kind of like to see, I don't know, a teensy bit of enthusiasm.
What they really wanted to do was go over to the play area and go down the slides, swing on the swings, and generally run a-muck. And in the end, you know what? I enjoyed that better myself. Of course I did! Nobody was making a fool out of themselves, sitting on a stranger's lap just because they like vanilla ice cream. (I did not make that up. In case you wondered. See? Stupid games.)

You crack me up! I've always loathed those kinds of activities, too. Excruciating! My daughters, however, would probably love something like that. The other night at a basketball game, Audrey made a new "grandma friend." She hung around her neck, invited her over to our house, and put the woman's rings on her TOES. All much to my horror. I can totally see her chasing a stranger around the park.
ReplyDeleteNow, why won't Audrey act like that with me, her own flesh and blood aunt? Not fair.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know my kids aren't generally shy. That is why this kind of surprised me! They weren't afraid to make friends on the slides. Just something to do with being TOLD to act silly with strangers. We all know how much they like to obey!
