It has begun...
Well, the selling off of our earthly goods (for the upteenth time in our married life) has begun. It looks like we have a buyer for our car - Sean is dealing with that today. We've sold our appliances and a few other odds and ends (though they'll stay in our house until closer to our departure date). But, the fact is, we are getting rid of stuff and it is happening fast. Aak!
I feel like we are making a terrible mistake by selling all of our things...because I truly do not buy into the "fact" that we are moving. Really. No, seriously. I do not believe we are moving. It isn't that I don't want to move or that I doubt God's plan for our lives in Mexico. I just, honestly, flat-out do not believe this can be happening. Therefore, it is a touch disturbing to see my "belongings" being sold off for what, to my mind, is a make-believe move.
People, I have never been dishonest with you. And I won't be right now. I'm crazy. That is all there is to it. My ability to accept reality is truly handicapped. I want to have a normal, reality-accepting mind. But, alas, I cannot convince myself. We are selling off everything...and it just seems so wrong.
Apparently, I not only have a thinking problem, but I also have an attachment-to-inanimate objects problem. Ugh. When it gets right down to it, I might be a teensy bit on the selfish side. I was kinda enjoying all my "stuff" and having for myself my very own home...now, we are getting rid of all that (did I mention this is the upteenth time in our marriage?) and heading off to Mexico where we will live in _________ apartment/house/shack/hotel for about _____ days/weeks/months/years.
Another change. Yes, again. And no idea what is to come. Uh-huh, again.
All these changes are good. And God has never - not ever - failed us. While I may be freaking out at the moment, I do want to assure you that I am so totally on board with this move. In fact, I am so thrilled about it that it is a bit of a dream - seems too cool to be true. This is probably why I am having a hard time believing it is real. Moving isn't exactly easy, especially not on this scale, but this is the life we signed up for...and, actually, the life we love! I am learning - *ahem* - re-learning to trust God in all things. (I guess I didn't get it the previous upteen times we've sold out and moved across several international borders and time zones) And God is using this as a teaching moment, showing me how attached I've become to things that, in light of eternity, just don't even matter.
Keep praying for us. We have about 5 weeks left in Shell and they are going to be crazy, emotional, busy, and chaotic.
