And Now, Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Blogging....Well, Probably Not.
Ugh. Ugh. And double UGH. What a week! Monday was fine but things went downhill fast. I wasn't feeling too woopy (how do you spell that?) as I went to bed Monday night. With itchy eyes and a runny nose, I was sure I must be having some sort of allergies. I mean, after all, I just got over a cold, how could I possibly be sick again? Tuesday morning was my morning to be the "helper" at Brooklyn's English Preschool and I'm pretty sure I efficiently infected every child there with this cold. Nice. I'll be getting hate mail for that one.
Well, obviously, it wasn't allergies like I thought - I discovered this mid-morning on Tuesday when it occurred to me that my allergies were still bothering me...and getting worse. By Tuesday night I was a worthless lump of sniffling misery on the couch. To make matters all the more lovely, Maddie was sick too and extremely fussy. Her sleep schedule was way off and she cried - no hollered - every hour or two through the night. I don't remember much of Wednesday but I'm pretty sure it looked like this: Blow nose, wipe Maddie's nose, blow nose, try to calm Maddie down, blow nose, put another movie in for Brooklyn (who was only slightly less sick than Maddie and me), blow nose, wipe Maddie's nose, rock Maddie, blow nose, lay screaming baby down to sleep in crib, sneeze five times in a row, blow nose, fall into defeated heap on living room floor, fall to sleep on living room floor, wake up in a pool of my own snot to the sound of a very upset and sick little baby crying in her crib. Shake it all up real good and...repeat.
But I'm better! We are all much better and I can't tell you how good it feels! Actually, by Wednesday night I was feeling well enough to leave the house. Okay, so I might have threatened my husband's life if he didn't get me out of the house, but the good news is, I got out of the house. And I ate pizza. And it was good. I think. I couldn't actually taste it because my nose was still kinda stuffed.
Today, feeling mostly human again, I tried to catch up on all the things that I didn't get done Tuesday or Wednesday - and accomplished, well, not very much of it. But that is okay. I feel so much better both physically and emotionally (why is it that when you are sick everything just gets so yucky?) that the fact that there is no water to wash all the laundry (that is a story in itself) really doesn't bother me as much as it normally would.
You know, life can throw you a whopper of a week now and then. But if there is one thing I've learned, God is very happy to help you get in a better frame of mind if you'll let Him. I was really down - okay, I was an emotional wreck. Looking back I can see that everything looked so terrible to me because I was exhausted, sick, and - I'll say it again just in case you didn't hear me - EXHAUSTED. Apparently, I need my sleep. But when I finally took the time to talk to God about it, to ask Him to help me get out of my pit of self-pity and despair, He was very quick to give me the shot in the arm that I needed. I did sleep a little better last night and I am feeling so much better physically - but honestly, those things aren't why I feel better emotionally. God Himself, generously heaped my plate with a hearty helping of grace, peace and joy. Can't explain it. Just going to enjoy it.
But know this - if you are having a bad day, a bad week or a bad year, nothing is too small or too big in your life that He isn't bigger. He's quite capable of taking your lousy attitude and turning that frown upside down (even when you'd kind of like to hold on to your crummy-ness - which is silly but we all do it). Such a good God. Just ask for a little bit of grace to get you through whatever you are going through, whether it is a little flu bug or something very big. Grace, peace, joy - God is in the business of distributing that stuff. Ask and you shall receive.
Now, it's off to bed for me. The more sleep I can get, the better. I can't believe I'm just now discovering how important sleep is. Good grief, you would have thought I would have learned that when I was a teenager or something. G' night!
